Joseph Anthony Germanotta Jr., a businessman and director of an Internet-based company was her father. In an Catholic home, she was brought up in the Manhattan's Upper East Side. Her parents enrolled their daughter at the Convent of the Sacred Heart, a religious elitist institution. Her love of music began as a small kid. She was taught how to play a keyboard, and at the age of 13, wrote her very first music. She was a part of the open mic nights. She was a big fan of Queen Michael Jackson, Madonna, and David Bowie. The graduate of New York University, Tisch School of Art she started studying music after high school. Although she was not able to pursue her studies, and instead she quit and began her own musical career.
